"For instance, the temperature dropped ten degrees the moment they stepped inside."

2. Look at the transition words used. Which help link the ideas? (Select all that apply)

The "Final Build"

This is how your finished paragraph should look. Notice the space (indentation) at the start!

The boys quickly realized that the cave was much more dangerous than it looked from the outside. For instance, the temperature dropped ten degrees the moment they stepped inside. Another example of the danger was the thick, heavy mist that blocked their vision. In addition, the floor was covered in slippery, jagged rocks that made walking nearly impossible. Because of these hidden risks, they decided to turn back and find a safer place to rest.

Quick Tip

To make your paragraph "cohesive" (stick together), always use transition words like However, Furthermore, or Specifically to lead the reader!

Self-Discovery

How many transition words can you find in your favorite book today? Look for the "glue" that holds the story together!
