Interactive Listening — Duolingo English Test (2026 Guide + Practice)Interactive Listening — Duolingo English Test (2026 လမ်းညွှန် + လေ့ကျင့်ခန်းများ)

Interactive Listening is the Duolingo English Test’s longest listening task: two sets of 8–10 sub-questions built around real conversations, about 7 minutes 45 seconds per set. Each set has three parts — Listen and Complete (fill in the blanks), Listen and Respond (choose the best reply), and a 75-second written summary that also feeds your Writing score. Expanded in July 2025, it is the only task that boosts two subscores at once. This lesson gives you the strategy plus two full practice sets.

How It Works — Step by Stepဘယ်လိုဖြေရမလဲ — အဆင့်ဆင့်

  1. Two sets, one conversation each. You get 2 sets per test. Each set is built around a single conversation (campus life, daily situations), with 8–10 sub-questions.
  2. Listen and Complete (3–4 items). Fill-in-the-blank questions based on the conversation audio — a word or short phrase from what you heard.Listen and Complete (၃–၄ ခု)။ စကားဝိုင်း အသံကို အခြေခံတဲ့ ကွက်လပ်ဖြည့် မေးခွန်းတွေ — ကြားခဲ့ရတဲ့ စကားလုံး ဒါမှမဟုတ် စကားစုတို တစ်ခု။
  3. Listen and Respond. Choose the best response to continue the conversation — the reply a real person would naturally give next.Listen and Respond။ စကားဝိုင်း ဆက်သွားဖို့ အကောင်းဆုံး တုံ့ပြန်ချက်ကို ရွေးပါ — တကယ့်လူတစ်ယောက် သဘာဝကျကျ ဆက်ပြောမယ့် အဖြေပါ။
  4. Summarize the Conversation (75 seconds). Write a paragraph summarizing the key points of the conversation. This summary also feeds your Writing subscore.Summarize the Conversation (၇၅ စက္ကန့်)။ စကားဝိုင်းရဲ့ အဓိကအချက်တွေကို အကျဉ်းချုပ် စာပိုဒ်တစ်ပိုဒ် ရေးပါ။ ဒီအကျဉ်းချုပ်က သင့်ရဲ့ Writing subscore ကိုပါ အထောက်အကူပြုပါတယ်။
  5. Timing per set: ~6:30 listening + 1:15 summary ≈ 7:45. The clock is shared — don’t spend so long on early questions that you rush the summary.တစ်စုံအတွက် အချိန်: နားထောင်ဖို့ ~၆:၃၀ + အကျဉ်းချုပ်ဖို့ ၁:၁၅ ≈ ၇:၄၅။ အချိန်က အတူတူသုံးရတာပါ — အစောပိုင်း မေးခွန်းတွေမှာ အချိန်ကုန်ပြီး အကျဉ်းချုပ်ကို အလျင်စလို ရေးရတာမျိုး မဖြစ်ပါစေနဲ့။

⚠️ Don’t study outdated material. Summarize the Conversation now exists only inside Interactive Listening — not as a standalone question type. And the old Read Aloud and Listen, Then Speak tasks were removed on July 1, 2025. If your practice material still teaches them as current, it’s outdated.

How It’s Scored (What the AI Checks)အမှတ်ဘယ်လိုပေးလဲ (AI က ဘာစစ်လဲ)

Interactive Listening is auto-scored, and it’s special: the listening sub-tasks feed your Listening subscore, while the written summary also feeds Writing — the only task on the test that boosts two subscores at once. Strong sets show:

  • Accurate listening detail — the right words in the blanks (spelling counts) and the most natural response chosen.တိကျတဲ့ နားထောင်နိုင်မှု — ကွက်လပ်တွေမှာ မှန်ကန်တဲ့ စကားလုံးတွေ (စာလုံးပေါင်းလည်း အမှတ်ဝင်ပါတယ်)၊ အသဘာဝကျဆုံး တုံ့ပြန်ချက်ကို ရွေးချယ်နိုင်မှု။
  • A complete, well-written summary — the key points of the conversation (who, what happened, what was decided) in your own words, in clear English.
  • Two subscores at once — Listening from the sub-tasks, Writing from the summary. This makes the 75-second summary the highest-leverage 75 seconds on the test.တစ်ပြိုင်နက် subscore နှစ်ခု — မေးခွန်းခွဲတွေက Listening၊ အကျဉ်းချုပ်က Writing။ ဒါကြောင့် ၇၅ စက္ကန့် အကျဉ်းချုပ်က စာမေးပွဲမှာ အကျိုးအရှိဆုံး ၇၅ စက္ကန့်ပါ။

Honest note: Duolingo does not publish full rubric weights or per-item point values. Automated items carry partial credit — a good guess is never worse than a skip.

Strategy — 6 Tactics That Workနည်းဗျူဟာ — ထိရောက်တဲ့ နည်း ၆ ခု

  1. Take notes while you listen: names, numbers, decisions. You can’t use paper on test day, but in practice, train your memory to grab the facts the blanks will ask for — who, how much, when, what was decided.
  2. Let grammar narrow the blank. In Listen and Complete, the sentence around the blank tells you the word form: after “room” comes a number; after “an extra” comes a noun. Grammar eliminates half the guesses.
  3. For Listen and Respond, match intent, not just grammar. Two options may both be grammatical — the right one is the reply a real person would give next. Eliminate responses that ignore the question or change the topic.
  4. Build the summary as: who + problem + key details + outcome. One paragraph, past tense, your own words. Aim for 50–80 words — enough to cover the key points, short enough to finish in 75 seconds.
  5. Paraphrase — never copy whole sentences. The summary feeds your Writing score, and copied sentences show zero writing ability. Restate: “plays loud music late at night” → “makes noise at night”.
  6. Protect the summary time. If a blank stumps you, guess and move on. Losing 3 minutes on one blank and rushing the 75-second summary trades a small item for the biggest item in the set.

💡 Hint💡 အကြံပြုချက်

The wrong options are grammatical but conversationally wrong — they ignore the question or break politeness. The right answer always moves the conversation forward.

မှားတဲ့ ရွေးစရာတွေက သဒ္ဒါမှန်ပေမယ့် စကားဝိုင်းအရ မှားပါတယ် — မေးခွန်းကို လျစ်လျူရှုတာ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ယဉ်ကျေးမှု ပျက်တာပါ။ အမှန်က စကားဝိုင်းကို ရှေ့ဆက်စေတဲ့ အဖြေပါ။

Model summary 1 — concise (about 55 words)Model အကျဉ်းချုပ် ၁ — တိုတို (စကားလုံး ၅၅ လုံးခန့်)

Min Thu, a student in room 214, asked the housing office for a room change because his roommate makes loud noise at night and he cannot sleep before his exams next week. After consulting his resident advisor, Mr. Davis, he was offered single room 312 on the third floor from Monday for an extra $40 per month. He will view the room and decide by evening.

What makes it good: who (Min Thu) → problem (noise, exams) → key details (room 312, $40, Monday) → outcome (will decide by evening). Every sentence is paraphrased, not copied.

Model summary 2 — fuller (about 80 words)Model အကျဉ်းချုပ် ၂ — ပိုပြည့်စုံတာ (စကားလုံး ၈၀ လုံးခန့်)

Min Thu, who lives in room 214, visited the housing office to request a room change. His roommate plays loud music late at night, and although he has asked him twice to stop, nothing has changed. With exams next week, Min cannot sleep. Following his resident advisor Mr. Davis’s suggestion, he came to the office, where Ms. Rivera offered him single room 312 on the third floor, available from Monday at an extra $40 per month. Min accepted the offer in principle, took the key to view the room, and promised to return it by 5 p.m. and give his final decision by evening.

What makes it good: it adds the backstory (asked twice, advisor’s suggestion, viewing the room) without copying any full sentence from the script. Notice the past tense throughout and the single-paragraph shape.

✅ What makes a good summary — self-check:✅ ကောင်းတဲ့ အကျဉ်းချုပ်ရဲ့ လက္ခဏာ — ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကို စစ်ပါ:

  • Key facts present: names (Min Thu, Mr. Davis), numbers (214, 312, $40, Monday), the problem and the outcome.အဓိကအချက်အလက်တွေ ပါတယ်: နာမည်တွေ (Min Thu, Mr. Davis)၊ ဂဏန်းတွေ (214, 312, $40, Monday)၊ ပြဿနာနဲ့ ရလဒ်။
  • Paraphrased, not copied: no full sentence lifted from the conversation.ပြန်ဆိုထားတာ၊ မကူးထားတာ: စကားဝိုင်းထဲက ဝါကျအလိုက်အတိုင်း တစ်ခုမှ မပါတာ။
  • One paragraph, past tense, 50–80 words — complete enough to inform, short enough to finish in 75 seconds.စာပိုဒ်တစ်ပိုဒ်၊ past tense၊ စကားလုံး ၅၀–၈၀ — သတင်းပေးလောက်အောင် ပြည့်စုံပြီး၊ ၇၅ စက္ကန့်အတွင်း ပြီးလောက်အောင် တိုတာ။
  • No new opinions: a summary reports what happened — it doesn’t add your advice or judgment.အမြင်သစ် မထည့်တာ: အကျဉ်းချုပ်က ဖြစ်ပျက်ခဲ့တာကို တင်ပြတာ — ကိုယ့်အကြံ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ဝေဖန်ချက် မထည့်ပါနဲ့။

Model summary 1 — concise (about 50 words)Model အကျဉ်းချုပ် ၁ — တိုတို (စကားလုံး ၅၀ လုံးခန့်)

Aye and Ko are preparing a class presentation on plastic waste for Friday. Ko has finished the introduction, while Aye found that Yangon produces over 2,000 tons of waste daily, about 15% of it plastic. Aye also interviewed a recycling shop owner, who said plastic bags often end up in the river. They will meet tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the library to finish the slides.

What makes it good: who (Aye and Ko) → task (Friday presentation) → key facts (2,000 tons, 15%, river) → next step (library, 4 p.m.). Compact, complete, paraphrased.

Model summary 2 — fuller (about 80 words)Model အကျဉ်းချုပ် ၂ — ပိုပြည့်စုံတာ (စကားလုံး ၈၀ လုံးခန့်)

Two classmates, Aye and Ko, are working on a class presentation about plastic waste scheduled for Friday. Ko has already completed the introduction slides. Aye researched statistics showing that Yangon generates more than 2,000 tons of waste every day, with roughly 15% being plastic, and interviewed a local recycling shop owner. The owner explained that while most plastic bottles get recycled, plastic bags frequently end up in the river — a strong point for their conclusion. They plan to recommend reusable bags and the city’s new recycling bins, and will meet tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the library to finalize everything.

What makes it good: it weaves in the interview detail and the proposed solutions, showing the summary covers the whole conversation — beginning, middle, and plan — not just the first half.
