Model Answer (Band 9.0)
~170 wordsThe line graph compares the number of times Australian teenagers consumed three different types of fast food (fish and chips, pizza, and hamburgers) over a 25-year period from 1975 to 2000.
Overall, the consumption of fish and chips declined significantly over the period, whereas the popularity of hamburgers and pizza rose steadily. By 2000, hamburgers had replaced fish and chips as the most consumed fast food item among this demographic.
In 1975, fish and chips was clearly the most popular choice, being eaten 100 times a year. In contrast, pizza and hamburgers were consumed far less frequently, at approximately 5 and 10 times per year, respectively. However, the trend for fish and chips was downward; consumption dropped gradually to roughly 85 times in 1980 and then plummeted to just under 40 times by 2000.
Conversely, hamburger consumption saw a dramatic surge. Starting at a low point in 1975, it overtook fish and chips in 1985 and continued to climb, peaking at 100 times a year in 2000. Pizza consumption followed a similar upward trend, though less steep, rising from negligible levels to over 80 times a year by the end of the period.
