🌟 Reading Passage: A Day in the Life of a Zookeeper
Many people think that working in a zoo is easy, but a zookeeper’s job is very busy and important.
Every morning, Mr. Thomas wakes up at 5:30 a.m. and eats a quick breakfast. He arrives at the zoo before 7 a.m. and checks all the animals carefully.
First, he feeds the lions and tigers. They eat a lot of meat, and they get very excited when they see Mr. Thomas. After that, he gives fresh vegetables and fruits to the monkeys and birds. The monkeys usually play with their food before they eat it, and the parrots often sing loudly when they are happy.
At around 10 a.m., Mr. Thomas cleans the animals’ cages. He also fills their water bowls and changes old bedding. Sometimes he teaches the visitors interesting facts about the animals. For example, he explains that elephants drink about 200 liters of water every day and that penguins stay together in large groups to keep warm.
In the afternoon, he joins meetings with the vet and the zoo manager. They talk about the animals’ health and plan new activities to make the animals happier. Mr. Thomas also writes short reports about what he sees during the day.
After a long day, Mr. Thomas leaves the zoo at 5 p.m. He feels tired but happy because he loves his job. “Taking care of animals is not just a job,” he says. “It’s a way of life.”
