The Duolingo English Test takes about 60 minutes at home on your own computer. It has three parts: a ~5-minute setup, a ~45-minute adaptive scored test with 13 question types, and a ~10-minute section of writing and speaking samples that universities read directly. Your score is 10–160, reported with 8 subscores — and this guide explains exactly how every point is earned.

⚠️ Don’t study outdated material. On July 1, 2025, Duolingo removed Read Aloud and Listen, Then Speak from the test, expanded Interactive Listening, and replaced Listen, Then Speak with Interactive Speaking. A mandatory secondary smartphone camera was added from September 2025. If your practice book or website still teaches the removed types, it’s outdated — find newer material.

You get 4 individual subscores — one per skill — plus 4 integrated subscores that combine two skills. Universities often look at the integrated scores because real academic work mixes skills (you read and write, you listen and speak).

Notice the practical takeaway: Interactive Listening feeds two subscores at once (Listening through the conversation tasks, Writing through the 75-second summary). That makes its summary the highest-leverage 75 seconds on the whole test.

The 10–160 Scale & How Your Score Is Computed၁၀–၁၆၀ အမှတ်စကေးနဲ့ အမှတ်တွက်ချက်ပုံ

  1. Prioritize the heavyweights. Read and Complete (3–6 passages × 3 min), Interactive Reading (2 sets), Interactive Listening (2 sets) and Interactive Writing (8 min) carry the most weight per minute.
