📝 အင်္ဂလိပ်သဒ္ဒါရှိ Articles များ

Articles are small but important words used before nouns. They help us know whether we're talking about something specific or general.

Articles သည် နာမ်များရှေ့တွင် သုံးသော သေးငယ်သော်လည်း အရေးကြီးသည့် စကားလုံးများဖြစ်သည်။ ၎င်းတို့သည် တစ်စုံတစ်ခုအကြောင်း တိကျစွာ သို့မဟုတ် ယေဘုယျအားဖြင့် ပြောနေခြင်း ဖြစ်သည်ကို သိစေရန် ကူညီသည်။

📚 Types of Articles

Indefinite articles – a and an
မသတ်မှတ်သော articles – a နှင့် an
Definite article – the
သတ်မှတ်ထားသော article – the
Zero article – (no article)
Zero article – (article မပါ)

1️⃣ Indefinite Articles: `a` and `an`

1️⃣ မသတ်မှတ်သော Articles: `a` နှင့် `an`

We use a or an when:

We talk about something for the first time
တစ်စုံတစ်ခုအကြောင်း ပထမဆုံးအကြိမ် ပြောသောအခါ
It is not specific
တိကျမှု မရှိသောအခါ
It is one (singular, countable noun)
တစ်ခုဖြစ်သောအခါ (ကိန်းဂဏန်းရေတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်)

🔔 Note: Use the sound, not the letter
 မှတ်ချက်: စာလုံးကို မကြည့်ပဲ အသံထွက်ကို ကြည့်ပါ။

a university = “you-niversity” → consonant sound
“you-niversity” = ဗျည်းသံ
an hour = “our” → vowel sound
“our” = သရသံ

💬 Example Sentences

I saw a dog in the street.
👉 Any dog, not specific
ကျွန်တော် လမ်းထဲမှာ ခွေးတစ်ကောင်ကို တွေ့ခဲ့သည်။
She ate an orange after lunch.
👉 "Orange" starts with a vowel sound
သူမသည် နေ့လည်စာပြီးနောက် လိမ္မော်သီးတစ်လုံး စားခဲ့သည်။
He is a European man.
👉 “European” sounds like “you-ropean” = consonant
သူသည် ဥရောပသားတစ်ယောက် ဖြစ်သည်။

2️⃣ Definite Article: `the`

2️⃣ သတ်မှတ်ထားသော Article: `the`

We use the when:

The noun is specific
နာမ်သည် တိကျမှုရှိသောအခါ
Both speaker and listener know what is being talked about
ပြောသူနှင့် နားထောင်သူ နှစ်ဦးစလုံး သိသောအခါ
The thing has been mentioned before
ထိုအရာကို ယခင်က ဖော်ပြခဲ့ဖူးသောအခါ
There is only one of something (unique)
တစ်ခုတည်းသာရှိသောအရာ

💬 Example Sentences

She went to the market this morning.
👉 Known or familiar place
သူမသည် ယနေ့မနက် စျေး သို့ သွားခဲ့သည်။
We watched the movie you told me about.
👉 Specific and previously discussed
ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် သင်ပြောခဲ့သော ရုပ်ရှင်ကို ကြည့်ခဲ့သည်။

3️⃣ Zero Article (No article)

We use no article in some situations:

Plural countable nouns (general) – Dogs are friendly.
Uncountable nouns (general) – Milk is good for health.
Names of countries/cities – Japan, London
Languages and subjects – English, Math
Meals – We had breakfast at 7.
Sports – She plays football.

Languages / Subjects	She studies English.	ဘာသာစကား / ဘာသာရပ်	သူမသည် အင်္ဂလိပ်စာကို သင်ကြားသည်။
Meals / Sports	We had lunch. He plays tennis.	အစားအစာ / အားကစား	ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ နေ့လည်စာ စားခဲ့သည်။ သူသည် တင်းနစ်ကစားသည်။

 ❗ Common Exceptions
 The United States, The Netherlands – Use “the” with country names containing words like “states,” “republic,” etc.
Mount Everest (✅), The Everest (❌) – Don't use “the” with single mountain names.
She's in hospital (UK) = as a patient
He goes to school = as a student
